3-2-1: Instagram Accounts, Pet Peeves, and Upsetting Changes
Hello, my friends. We’re about to get into a 3-2-1 that includes some real feelings and opinions… buckle up!
Today we’ve got:
3 of my Favorite Instagram Accounts!
2 of my Biggest Pet Peeves!
1 Thing that is Incredibly Upsetting!
*Disclaimer/Warning: Some of this has absolutely nothing to do with food and nutrition. This post goes from friendly discourse about Instagram accounts, to things that make me mad, to one thing that is currently making me madder!
Here goes…
3 of my Favorite Instagram Accounts!
Account to follow #1: @Biolayne
I appreciate Layne Norton for his science-based perspectives and posts on nutrition, and also for his refuting of lots of BS that exists out there on the internet.
One of his go-to phrases is Data > Feelings, which I love! He uses that phrase, and the science, to buck against the claims of Carnivore Diet zealots, of people who say that artificial sweeteners are making you fat, and that vegetable oils are trying to kill you. Check out this post, this post, and this post for examples!
Aside from his nutrition-based posts, he also is big time into Powerlifting and has a super hot wife, so it’s fun to see those posts too ; )
Account to follow #2: @hormozi
Alex Hormozi is the author of $100M Offers: How To Make Offers So Good People Feel Stupid Saying No (which is free on Kindle!).
If you’re an entrepreneur I highly recommend checking out his book and his Instagram channel as he gives clear and concise advice, and is never trying to sell you anything (until your company makes at least $10m, because that’s when he’ll consider taking you on as a client!)
His <1 minute long videos, with captions!, on Insta are incredibly informative and address specific topics like “How to make products people want to buy” and “Most common mistakes entrepreneurs make.” Check him out if you’re feeling business-y!
Account to follow #3: @optimizenutrition
EC Synkowski used to be a big player in the CrossFit space, which is how I heard of her and her account in the first place. She actually gave the nutrition lecture at my CrossFit Level 1 Certification… and at the lunch hour she did a workout with 135# snatches in it, which if you know anything about that, is very impressive, especially to my CF noob self!
Anywayyyy, I love her account because of it’s no-nonsense, science-based posts and communication. I get the sense that she doesn’t worry if she’s hurting your feelings with anything she posts… which, as someone who creates content regularly, can be tough!
Here’s two examples of her DIRECT communication:
With this being said, I also know that she offers plenty of support and coaching to go with her directness, too! Good stuff!
2 of my Biggest Pet Peeves!
Pet Peeve #1: People who don’t do what they say they’re going to do
Oh, wow, this is a big one for me. Seriously, do what you say you’re going to do, barring emergency, of course.
And, if for some reason you can’t do what you said you were going to do, make it known so people who are depending on you can adjust their expectations. Or, ask for help. Or, something so that others involved are not left hanging.
Pet Peeve #2: When people chew with their mouths open
Does this one need explanation?? If you’re above the age of 6, close your dang mouth when you’re chewing, no one wants to hear your mouth noises!
1 Thing that is Incredibly Upsetting!
Upsetting isn’t even the right word for it… infuriating… maddening… sad… the list of feelings goes on.
I imagine this is something we’ve sadly been waiting for to happen… With the appointment of three Supreme Court Justices under Trump, it felt like abortion rights only had a matter of time.
I, and I imagine many others, cried when RBG passed away, because this was the likely and eventual result.
And, now, today, with the release of the opinion draft, we can expect FIFTY YEARS of precedent set with Roe v Wade to be removed, and rights/access to safe abortion to be SEVERELY decreased across the country, even when the majority of Americans support access to abortion. Removing rights like this is so backward and extremely disconcerting when you think about what else can shift moving forward.
While I don’t agree, I honestly do understand (at least some of) the pro-life standpoint. I just DO NOT understand how we can so severely restrict women’s rights to make choices about their own bodies and lives. And, at that, also NOT support women with health care, equal pay, parental leave from jobs, etc.
This says it:
I’m certainly lucky to live in a place that has access to abortion, but I don’t believe that luck, finances, and location, should have to be a part of this conversation.
I suppose we can only hope for changes to occur on the SC opinions before the official ruling, but that seems unlikely. So, yeah, I’m upset, and feeling like this today:
I know there is much more to say on this topic, but I’m going to leave it there for today.
Certainly I welcome the sharing of opinions, conversation, and feedback, so please comment or send me a message at sara@nutritionforlifeproject.com!
As always, thank you for reading,
xoxo,
